Deleting your data

Last updated 23 September 2026.

If you messaged a studio on Instagram

Your conversation is held by the studio you messaged, not by Stencil. Ask them to erase you and they can: erasing your client record deletes the messages and the pictures you sent, and removes your handle, your name and your profile picture from their records.

If you would rather ask us directly, send the Instagram handle you messaged from and the studio's name to the contact below. We will pass it to that studio and confirm when it is done.

If you are a client of a studio

Ask the studio. They can erase your client record, which removes your name, contact details, date of birth, notes, health details, messages and photos.

What stays, and it is worth knowing: the dates and prices of your sessions and the payments you made are kept as the studio's accounts, no longer attached to your name, and a signed consent form is a legal record the studio must keep for the period it has set. The studio can tell you exactly what it retains and for how long.

If you run a studio

Ask us to close the studio and we delete the whole tenant: clients, bookings, payments, conversations, connected account credentials and logins. Tell us whether you want a copy of the data first, because after deletion we cannot produce one.

Disconnecting Instagram from Account › Connected accounts immediately destroys the stored credential and stops all reading and sending, without deleting anything else.

What happens when you ask

A person reads the request, confirms who is asking, and carries it out. We aim to complete it within 30 days and to tell you when it is done. Backups roll off on their own schedule, so a deleted record may persist in a backup for a short period before it expires; it is not restored to the live system.

How to ask

Reply to whoever set your studio up, or contact the studio you messaged. Either route reaches a person, and neither needs an account.
